Collagen: To drink or not to drink?

Collagen: To drink or not to drink?

Vogue’s article titled ‘I drank collagen every day for three months’ got me questioning the many methods of attempting to boost our collagen.

In the article Maria Goldbach states that “Drinking collagen every day is said to ensure firmer, more hydrated skin” and so I headed straight online to purchase her preferred choice of supplement. Instead of being taken straight to Sephora, popping the £55 box into my basket and checking out, I was swarmed with an array of options under this new collagen-infested google search. Collagen capsules, collagen liquid, body scrub, face cream, injections, face masks and a scale from 1 to 5 of different levels of collagen.

I was completely overwhelmed by my options. I could drink collagen and my skin would be plumper? At the time, that was slightly too confusing for me. So, instead of cashing out my basket, I took a little research journey into the many ways I could incorporate this (apparently very important) protein into my day.

Firstly, Goldbach taught me that the skin renews itself every 28 days. A fact that I would of bypassed if it wasn’t for her reminding us not to judge a skincare product within the first 28 days, as it may not be visible until your new skin has presented itself. So, I took myself upstairs to browse through my own “collagen collection”.

The first thing I came across was my Marine Miracle Crème. A timeless hydration staple in my eyes. Nourishing and plumping, healing and restorative, this moisturiser more than moisturises with its signature marine formula. Delivering a youthful appearance, this crème helps boost collagen and regenerates skin cells. So, even in my morning and night routine, I am already immersing my skin with plumping peptides, and I didn’t even have to think about it.

Supplements and drinks powders are renown in the beauty industry for supposedly increasing and boosting collagen levels from within. However, these obviously take a while to prove themselves and most people may get bored or push them to the back of the cupboard, forgetting they were even there! Despite ‘collagen-enriched’ cosmetic products not having as strong penetrative skills as the drinks, they are easy and quick to utilise, they don’t require any tasting of the product, and they work away behind the scenes.

My lips are a big insecurity of mine. It is often forgotten that as we age, our lips will inevitably lose their fullness, due to their lack of collagen. For an immediate result that works overtime, I pump plump into my lips through the LipVolume Voluptuous that contains Hilurlip for a volumizing, rapid lip increase. Hydration is boosted and it has a gorgeously energising tingle. My natural lip shape looks more sculpted, and my lips feel genuinely bigger. For me, it’s a great way to feel good and look good without having to wait 28 days to see effects or even resorting to filler!

Eating foods such as chicken, fish, broccoli, berries and beef are all natural ways in incorporating collagen into your diet. These organic foods are high in antioxidants which can help to protect and preserve collagen, and they also contain great amounts of vitamin C supporting in collagen production.

Personally, I will be sticking to the natural ways of eating the forementioned foods and utilising my products better whilst I delve deeper into this wellness universe!
